Visual Intelligence is the theory that the brain devotes billions of neurons and trillions of synapses to vision. That's more computing power than any supercomputer, and it explains why toddlers are better at seeing things than chess masters. With all this computing power, it is easy to see why the next big thing in computer technology will be computer vision. This will revolutionize our day-to-day lives more than any other technology before it.
A person with high visual-spatial intelligence has an aptitude for navigating, planning, and designing. They have a strong ability to interpret maps, make models, and think in pictures. They also have an innate ability to notice details that others miss. These individuals have an innate talent for creating pictures and may have a natural aptitude for drawing, clay modelling, and bird watching.
Visual Intelligence can be enhanced by visiting a museum, which enhances critical thinking and communication skills. In a recent study, museum educators and doctoral students from the National Gallery of Art collaborated to teach students at an advanced communications course how to apply visual intelligence skills. They studied student performance on tests of observation skills and the use of intentional language to communicate. They also explored the relationship between visual intelligence and empathy.
The study used descriptive and nonparametric statistics to measure the changes in pre and post-assessment scores. The results showed that intentional visual observation and the creation of alternate views were significantly related to perception and empathy. The study also demonstrated that training for visual intelligence is effective in improving both general and specialized skills.
